QGIS Workshop Series In-Person

Join the University Libraries for the QGIS, a workshop series for GIS beginners that teaches you the skills needed to navigate, analyze, and share geographic information effectively, and lay a solid foundation for any GIS project.

Workshop 1: GIS Fundamentals

Tuesday, February 6

In this foundational workshop, you will gain a solid understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), exploring key concepts and the role of GIS in various disciplines. You will also learn the basics of spatial data and be able to navigate the QGIS interface.

Workshop 2: GIS Data Creation & Management

Tuesday, February 20

The second workshop in the series equips you with the skills to create and manage geospatial data, covering data types, sources, and the practical aspects of maintaining a well-organized GIS database.  You will delve deeper into spatial data, and practice creating, editing, and managing data.

Workshop 3: Basic Spatial Analysis in QGIS

Tuesday, March 5

Building on your foundational GIS knowledge, this workshop will help you master essential spatial analysis techniques in QGIS, such as extracting, manipulating, and joining spatial data to help them glean valuable insight from spatial relationships and geographic data.  You will explore spatial analysis skills using real-world scenarios in QGIS, and gain an understanding of the vast and endless possibilities of spatial analysis using GIS.

Workshop 4: Publishing with QGIS

Tuesday, March 19

In this workshop, you will explore the art of map publishing in both static and interactive online formats. You will learn to incorporate cartographic and user design principles, ensuring your maps are not only informative, but visually compelling for effective communication and presentation.  At the end of the workshop, you will understand design best practices to create aesthetically pleasing and informative maps.
