Eadington Fellow Colloquium: Morris ‘Moe’ Dalitz and the Development of Las Vegas, 1950s–1980s In-Person / Online

Join us for a talk by Dr. Paul V. Khiatani exploring the remarkable transformation of Las Vegas in the second half of the 20th century and the complex role played by one of its most influential figures, Morris ‘Moe’ Dalitz (1899 to 1989).

Drawing on elite studies, state-society relations, and extensive archival research, including materials from UNLV Special Collections and Archives, the Mob Museum, declassified FBI documents, and more, Dr. Khiatani examines how Dalitz leveraged both legitimate and illegitimate networks to help shape modern Las Vegas.

By conceptualizing Dalitz as a state-crime elite, this talk sheds light on the often overlooked interactions between the upperworld and underworld in local development.

The William R. Eadington Fellowship program is sponsored by the University Libraries Special Collections and Archives and funds scholarly research into our collections on gaming and Las Vegas.
