Klai Juba Wald Spring Lecture Series - Emerging Voices Lectures + Exhibition

No cost for admission.

Lecturers:
Behnaz Farahi is a designer, creative technologist and critical maker. Trained as an architect, she explores how to foster an empathetic relationship between the human body and the space around it through the implementation of emerging technologies. Her goal is to enhance the relationship between human beings and the built environment by following morphological, and behavioral principles inspired by natural systems. Her work addresses critical issues such as emotion, bodily perception and social interaction. She specializes in computational design, interactive technologies, additive manufacturing and digital fabrication technologies.

An articulate architect and mentor, Pascale Sablan, AIA, is only the 315th black female architect to receive licensure in the United States. With a passion for design that took root long before she began to practice, Sablan seeks excellence and humanity in all of her projects while providing a resounding voice for the issues facing women architects and architects of color.

Exhibition:
The School of Architecture will display the exhibition SAY IT LOUD, an initiative to promote gender equality and diversity in architecture.

This exhibition will be on show in the Architectural Studies Library at the SoA, and feature the work of female and minority Nevada-based architects and designers.

Curator is Pascale Sablan, AIA, from New York City, who will especially design and produce this exhibition for the UNLV School of Architecture.

The SAY IT LOUD exhibition features projects by the women and diverse design professionals, as well as quotes and video interviews on their experiences in the architecture and design professions.

The concept of this exhibit is "To see our faces, hear our voices, and feel our impact within the colorful tapestry of our heritage." SAY IT LOUD is the activation of a national movement of sharing, protecting and celebrating the journey of the underrepresented to inspire the next generation.

SAY IT LOUD engages diverse audiences through programming organized at the time of exhibition to elevate the identities and contributions of women and diverse designers with curated lectures and documentaries that testify to the provided value of their built work and its spatial impact.
