Research Data Series: Getting started with searching for secondary social sciences data Online
Research in the social sciences can be broad and fall under many different disciplines. Frequently, research questions will require secondary resources, including potentially government or city statistics, policy reports, or public opinion information. However, finding that data can be complicated or involve different search strategies. This is an introductory workshop meant to familiarize participants with how to search for secondary data, focused largely on government, academic, and think-tank resources.
Attendees will be able to:
- Break down their research question to recognize what types of data they need
- Identify popular government, project, popular, and think-tank resources that collect and distribute data
- Navigate websites and supplemental documentation to find source data and be able to explain and describe what data is available
